This study examines the applicability of Minuchin's theory to the therapeutic conditions of a Korean family. For this task, the present paper describes the present status of the Korean family therapy in general, analyze the traits which are typical of a Korean family structure, and contrives a workable model for the therapy of a Korean family. This study has led to the following propositions:
1. Structural family therapy diagnoses family problems and offers the client prescriptive recommendations solving problems by the therapist's active observation and involvement in the issues that are centrally problematic to the client.
2. Since contemporary Korean family problems often involve states of enmashment and disengagement, structural family therapy method is highly recommended.
3. Since a Korean family stresses the educational achievement and success by the children, skills of an enactment and task assignment become integral to this approach.
4. Since visits to a counselor's office have not become institutionalized in the Korean society-culture, according to this study an alternative to visits to a professional counselors and/or family therapists should be urgently explored.
