아동미술은 아동의 능력, 연령, 취향 등의 개별적인 요소가 고려된 주제, 재료와 표현의 포괄적인 기회 제공으로 아동의 능동적인 태도와 창의성 계발에 기여하여야 하며, 창작품의 평가 보다는 주제 제시에서부터 시작되는 단계적인 발전 과정에 중점을 둔다. 아동은 열린 회화적 조형 체험을 통하여 자기 표출과 창의성의 발달을 도모한다. 그것은 아동의 본능적이며 자발적인 표현방법에 기인한다.
아동미술교육에서 창의성은 항상 논하여졌으며, 가장 중요시 여겨 왔음에도 불구하고 실질적으로는 기능적인 실기 위주의 범주에서 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 반면 창의력 계발을 위한 방법은 교사뿐 만이 아닌 급변하는 현대사회에 대처하고자 하는 정치가, 사업가의 관심사이며, 최근 교육의 흐름에 입각한 새로운 Program과 교육방법들이 시행되고 있다. 여기서 몇 가지 질문을 추가해 본다면 무분별하고 비체계적인 교육제도의 도입이 주는 잇점은 무엇일까? 홍수같이 밀려오는 Program 중에 어느 것을 선택하여야 하며, 선택기준을 어디에 둘 것인가?

영어 초록

Some theories and viewpoints about art education history have been clarified and given some critical observations. It is advisable that people should avoid confusion and failures coming from absolutism of some theories. Also, we cannot lead people to abolish all the old institutionalized customs and traditions simply because they are outdated. The reason for this is as follows: even in one theory can we find all kinds of merits and demerits and therefore it is never wise to wipe out that theory. Rather we have to find ways of strengthening some shortcomings by trials and errors. Only the effective and reasonable methods of collecting good points and discarding all the deficiencies could be the right direction in this era of multi-programs. The educators are to choose the objective criteria based on the logical drawing strategies. DBAE (Discipline-Based Art Education) is inclusive and comprehensive in its approach to art education. But then the practicality in the negative environment of cramming and CSAT(College Scholastic Abilities Tests)-oriented teaching methodology is in question in Korea. Though some approaches are in practice in classrooms and others are expected to be introduced in the near future, the task of choosing the best methodology still falls in the hands of teachers. A kind of compromise is recommended in this case between the new approaches and old theories. Finally, placing some more emphasis on the roles of teachers could enhance to establish more concrete education philosophy and beliefs in childrens education. Teachers themselves should be competent in choosing and developing the teaching materials. Therefore the proper understanding and recognition on the parts of teachers are the prerequisites for a creative teaching that comprises the total comprehension of each pupils developments, interests, and potentialities.
