The purpose of this study was to examine the priorities of elementary school teacher's value orientarion in physical education and to make a comparative analysis of thier value orientation by gender, school location and whether or not they took exclusice charge of physical education.The sjbjects in this study were 254 teachers from north jeolla province, and a survey was conducted ny questionnaire method, mail and e-mail.
The collected data were analyzed with SPSSWIN 10.0 program, and t-test and ANOVA were employed. The findings of this study were as below.
Firtst, the elementary school teachers investigated gave top priority to a reconstruction of society and self- realization as what's pursued in physical educaionl. The learning process, mastering learning contents and ecological integration were considered less important.
Second, gender made a significant difference to thier value orientation toward ecological intergration. The male teachers valued it more than the females did.
Third, their value orientation toward learning process and self- realization differed with teaching career.
The beginning or leading teachers gave most weight to learning process and mastering learning contents in the order named, but mastering learning contents was regarded as most vaulable among the experienced teachers, and learning process was looked upon as the second most precious one.
Fourth, those who didn't take exclusive charge of physical education found mastering learning content more critical than the others who did, and there appeared significant gap between the two groups.
Fifth, the teachers from the urban areas found mastering pearning contents more vial than the others from the rural communities, and the difference between the two was significant.
