컴퓨터와 인터넷 활용을 중심으로 한 정보화 사회의 발전은 인간생활에 다양한 즐거움을 주며 많은 영향을 미치고 있다(김진희, 김경신, 2003). 정보화(informatization)란 정보의 생산 및 유통량이 점차 늘어나면서 이를 효율적으로 처리하거나 분배할 수 있는 기술이 고도화되고 경제적으로나 사회적으로 정보의 가치가 커지는 과정을 말한다(배규한, 임창규, 1998). TV나 라디오 같은 기존의 매체가 정보를 일방적으로 제시하고 수용하는 단방향 매체인 반면, 인터넷은 문자나 음성정보 외에 동화상 정보의 전달이 가능하고 실시간으로 상호간 데이터의 송수신이 가능한 양방향 매체의 특성을 가지므로 폭발적인 속도로 사람들의 생활과 문화의 일부가 되어가고 있다.영어 초록
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there are differences in career maturity by internet usage types to help middle school students develop career maturity. To achieve this goal, the following issues were discussed;First, what is the situation of internet usage of middle school students?
Second, what are the internet usage types of middle school students? Also, are there differences of internet usage types between female students and male students?
Third, are there differences in career maturity by internet usage types of middle school students?
The participants of this study were 206 male and 277 female middle school students in Pusan. The instruments used in this study were career maturity test developed by Korean Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training, and the questionnaires on internet usage types and situations developed by the author of this research. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, ANOVA, and MANOVA were performed to analyze the data.
The important results are as follows;
First, most of the students have done internet for 3 years, and the most frequent average internet time was between 1 and 2 hours. The respondents whose average internet time was more than 3 hours were up to 11.3%. The main place of using internet was their home. While most students were using internet frequently, they didn't think computer or internet as their future job options.
Second, the types of internet which middle school students were using frequently were found as information search, game, online shopping, music/movies/drama download, the usage of cyber communication, and the usage of academic sites.
Third, the differences between male students and female students in internet usage types were found. While male students did games most frequently and the next frequent types used were information search, chatting/messenger, the usage of cyber community, music/movies/drama download, the usage of academic sites and online shopping, in the order, female students did information search most frequently, and next, online shopping, music/movies/drama download, the usage of cyber community, chatting/messenger, the usage of academic site, and game, in the order.
Fourth, the differences of career maturity among internet usage types of middle school students were found. A significant difference in sub factors of career maturity among groups based on internet usage types was found. Among male students, respondents using information search most frequently had the highest score in the ability factor of career maturity. Among famale group, students using academic site most frequently scored higher than any other types in the ability factor.
