영문초록

한국어 초록

미디어 센터가 보유하고 있는 모든 자료는 사용자가 손쉽게 접하여 사용할 수 있을 때, 그 존재 가치를 발휘할 수 있다. 그러기 위해서 모든 소장 자료는 적절한 규칙에 의해서 정리되어야 한다.도서의 목록 작업은 벌써 19세기 중엽에 그 자리를 잡아가기 시작하여 오늘날까지 많은 연구와 조사가 계속되는 반면 nonprint 자료는 그렇지 못했다. Nonprint 자료는 그 형태나 종류는 물론 제작 방법도 매우 다양하여 정리하기가 까다롭고 복잡하여 1940년대 말까지도 일정한 규칙이 없었다.아직까지도 많은 미디어 센터에서는 자체내에서 개발한 방법이나 입수 번호 등을 사용하여 적당한 자료를 정리하고 있다. 일예를 들면 서울시 산하 5개의 교육구청은 자료의 분류 목록 방식이 전혀 통일되지 못해 사용자가 심한 혼란을 느끼고 있다(김인숙, 1982, pp.63- 64).

영어 초록

Since the fir st appearance of cataloging rules for nonprint mater ials 35 year s has passed. But no per fect rules cover ing both pr int and nonpr int mater ials ha s not been firmly established yet. Development of new rules has been always in demand in accordance with the continuous development in technology and advent of new media.Over the la st several decades , ALA developed it s own rules applicable both to print and nonprint materials, center ing around pr int materials . AECT also developed it s own rules with priority given to nonprint materials. Each method has it s own merit s and shortcomings due to the difference in major empha sis It is difficult to develop a general method which cover s both print and nonpr int materials equally well.In 1976, AECT investigated the American bibliographic system of audiovisual information mater ials and found 38% under AACR rule and 18% under AECT rule.rogers conducted a similar survey on the cataloging rules of libraries in 1977 and found AECT rule wa s the most popular . Olson also examined the cataloging rules of academic librar ies and found 35% of them under AACR rule.It seems that media specialists advocated AECT rule while librar ians recommended AACR rule on the ba sis of their own study.Since there is no general rule relevent to all the situation, it is recommendable to choose its own method, taking into account it s major qualities such as types of media center, kinds and quantity of collections and kinds of clients.There is a problem to apply the Amer ican rule to our cur rent situation without major modification. Therefore, it is desirable to develop an ideal method more relevant to the Korean situation with a close cooperation between librarians and media specialists.
