Abstract

한국어 초록

이 연구에서는 대학 정원의 확대가 교육기회의 분배와 어떠한 관련이 있는가를 밝혀 보려고 하였다. 특히 정원확대의 시기와 관련하여 교육기회 분배구조가 연차적으로 어떻게 변화하는가를 분석하였다. 이러한 분석을 통하여 대학정원 확대가 과연 대학 교육기회의 평등을 실현하는데 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 밝혀 볼 수 있을 것이다. 대학 정원의 확대에 따른 교육기회 분배구조의 변화를 분석한 바에 의하면, 교육기회는 학생의 출신배경에 따라 불평등하게 분배되고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 정원확대기에는 불평등한 분배 상황이 다소나마 완화되는 경향을 보이고 있지만 정원억제기에는 불평등한 분배상황이 더 이상 완화되지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

영어 초록

A question has been raised that there is no positive relation between the quantitative expansion of higher education opportunities and the realistic distribution structure of higher education. This conclusion is partly because a systematic empirical study has not been made to identify the changes in the distribution system of educational opportunities in accordance with the educational expansion. This study is to analyse the effects of higher education expansion over the equality of educational opportunities.
The results of analysing the equity problem showed that the family background of university and college students was the significant distributor over the educational opportunities. Parents' education and occupation, and house location were the significant factors in distributing higher education opportunities.
As the higher education expansion goes on, the educational opportunities were enlarged for the mid lower SES group. For the mid higher SES group, the opportunities were shrinked. Contrastingly enough, educational opportunities were narrow for the mid-lower SES group when the expansion policy was in effect. And the opportunities for the mid-higher SES group were broadened. These mean that the distribution of higher education opportunities was unequal. When the house location was considered, the opportunities for the mid-lower SES group in the city area and for the mid-higher SES group in Seoul were extended.
The results mean that the distribution of higher education opportunities was showed differences among individual universties and colleges, and across SES groups.
Based on this study results, the following recommendation was made. The inequality in distributing educational opportunities should be studies further since the simple expansion of higher education does not result in equitable distribution of higher education.
