A remarkable area in higher education system of the present day is teacher education. It is a hard fact that the progress of a country depends on the quality of the education, available for its children and youth. This quality of education, in turn, depends on quality of its teachers at all levels, However at the level of school education, the effectiveness of teacher is a bit more sensitive, as the target student are of such as group that seeks their role model in teacher. Specially the phase of transition from childhood to adolescence in secondary classes always comes with lot distraction and diversions. So, multi- skilled and effective teacher are highly needed for secondary classes. In India, there are various teacher education programmes for the training of teachers at various levels. To be a secondary school teacher, however, one year course of Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) is the most common one. The graduates get in the course and are supposed to work as Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) for secondary classes, after one year training. Present paper firstly describe the development of teacher training progammes and the activities organized during the programme and secondly compares the effectiveness measures of programme at the pre- and post level of training. On the basis of various observations, it also suggests some remedial measures.
