The purpose of this study was to examine moderating effect of cumulative protective factors on schoolresilience of Chinese-Korean youth raised by their grandparents in Yanbian, China. Risk factors are
depression?anxiety, academic stress, dangerous community, and protective factors are self-esteem, emotional
control, parenting skills, parent attachment, peer attachment, teacher attachment, support of neighbors,
community attachment. For this, we collected data through the use of a questionnaire based survey
completed by 381 youths who raised by their grandparents in Yanbian(Yanji, Longjing), China. Statistical
analysis was conducted using SPSS 19.0.
The major findings of this study were as follows: First, risk factors had a direct negative effect on
school resilience, and cumulative protective factors had a direct positive effect on school resilience. Second,
cumulative protective factors had a moderating effect to the school resilience of youth in this study. In
other words, protective factors had a positive cumulative effect on school resilience. And as risk factors
increased, the moderating effect of the protective factors appeared to be a responsible for a great difference
in resilience between those youth with more cumulative protective factors and those with fewer such
protective factors.
Furthermore, theoretical and practical implications of these results were discussed.
