The purposes of this study are to analysis the recent change of social welfareenvironments in Korea and social worker’s needs about counselor education and to provide
the basic data for exploring the possibility of combining the course related to counseling into
the Undergraduate Curriculum. The data this article made use of was collected by
convenience sampling of 135 social workers in the social welfare institutions in Busan and
Ulsan.
The research findings are as follows: the 97.4% of those surveyed stated that they need
the knowledge related to counseling, there is a positive correlation between the degree of
agreement about the need of training and career as a social worker, the 68.9% of them
didn’t agree that they got the enough skills required to take care of the client and his/her
family through the undergraduate curriculum, more than 1/2 supported students in social
welfare are should be taught counseling education from their undergraduate studies. Finally,
this study suggest that we need to have exploratory discussions about the possibility of
combining the course related to counseling into the Undergraduate Curriculum.
