With the significant importance of teachers' competence for intervention in school violence situation, thepredominant concern of the study consist in: (1) the direct effects of teachers' and students' perception
regarding teachers' competence for intervention in school violence situation on students' coping response toward
school violence; (2) the mediating effects of individuals' perception for violence and individuals' definition of
school violence, and the second order mediators. The research is based on a survey conducted with teachers
and students from middle schools in Daegu, including 540 students and 351 teachers. In order for respondents
to verify research questions, structural equation models were explored, using AMOS and Mplus. The notable
findings are as follows: First, the students who positively perceive the teacher's competence for intervention in
school violence are willing to cope with school violence to themselves more actively. Second, the perception of
teachers and students regarding teachers' competence for intervention in school violence has the direct effect on
the level of perceiving violence and defining school violence. Thirdly, although the students' perception for
violence and the definition of school violence directly influence on the students' coping response to school
violence, that of teachers' perception does not have an effect on that of students' response. Lastly, while the
level of perceiving violence does not show the mediating effect between the students' perception toward
teacher's competence for intervention in school violence and the students' coping response to school violence,
we found the mediating effect of defining the level of school violence, and the second ordered mediating effect
of perceiving violence and defining school violence. Some practical and political implications are discussed based
on the study's findings.
