Rapid growth in population accompaniedby thriving economy growth can sometimestempt the transportation planners anddecision makers into compromising the environmentand the equity of the residentsin the region to sustain the high rate ofgrowth. However, when the delicate equilibriumamong the equity, environment andeconomic growth is not carefully balanced,the engine for driving economic growth cansoon fade away, and the communities canno longer be sustainable. The balanceamong the equity, environment and economicgrowth can be achieved by carefulplanning. This monograph discusses howthe San Francisco Bay Area, the world21st largest economy and home to 7 millionpeople strives to balance of the equity,environment and economic growth through its long range regional transportation plan(RTP), the Plan Bay Area (see Figure 1)영어 초록
Rapid growth in population accompaniedby thriving economy growth can sometimes
tempt the transportation planners and
decision makers into compromising the environment

growth. However, when the delicate equilibrium
among the equity, environment and
economic growth is not carefully balanced,
the engine for driving economic growth can

growth can be achieved by careful
planning. This monograph discusses how
the San Francisco Bay Area, the world
