The purpose of this study was to develop a sports sociability scale for elementary school students. Theparticipants for an open questionnaire were 10 elementary school teachers who teach physical education now
in D City. Group interviews were performed with 7 elementary school teachers. The participants for the
development of scale were 315 elementary school students in 2 districts, and the participants for validity test
were 732 students in 7 districts. Data were collected by using an open questionnaire, group interviews, and
survey. Collected data were analyzed by using statistics programs. The data were analyzed by using SPSS
20.0 for exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis, and by using AMOS 17.0 for
confirmatory factor analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, the developed sports sociability
scale for elementary school students comprised 24 items of 6 sub‐factors: ‘leadership’(4 items), ‘activity’(4),
‘courtesy’(4), ‘cooperativity’(4), ‘consensual’(4), and ‘sociality’(4). Second, the developed resilience scale was
proven to be valid. The construct validity of this scale was verified by confirmatory factor analysis. The
discrimination validity was verified by comparing average variance extracted (AVE) and the square of
correlation between the sub‐factors. Through the developed scale, elementary school students will be able to
judge whether what high and low social skills in the sports situation and it will be helpful for students who
will bring up necessary skills to live and mingle with many people. Also for sports instructor, this scale can
be used as important material to judge whether what physical sports activity can help to enhance sociability
of students.
