본 연구는 노인의 성생활 실태 및 성에 대한 태도가 노화를 인지하는 정도와 생활의 만족도에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 이론적 고찰과 경험적 조사를 통하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 노인 자신 뿐만 아니라 일반인들이 노인의 성 자체를 자연스럽게 이해할 수 있는 시각의 전환을 모색하고자 하였으며 노인들이 노년기의 삶에 대한 보람을 높일 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 데 기초 자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 조사내용이 성에 관한 것이 주가 됨으로써 대상자들이 회피할 가능성이 높고 또한 무성의한 답변으로 자료의 신뢰도를 떨어뜨릴 확률이 높으므로 본 연구자를 포함한 4명의 조사자가 직접 일대일 면접과 자기기입 방식을 병행하여 수집된 183부의 자료를 분석에 사용하였다. 연구의 결과를 요약하면 첫째, 노인들 스스로가 아직도 성에 대한 잘못된 인식과 낡은 성 도덕관에 얽매여 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 이성교제의 어려움에 대해서는 여성노인들은 나이가 많아서, 남성노인들은 사회적 관습과 경제적 역할에 부담감을 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 노인의 성생활 빈도가 노화인지에 영향을 미치는 중요한 요소이며, 성생활 빈도가 높을수록 노화인지도가 낮게 나타났다. 넷째, 노인에게 있어서 성생활이 만족할 때 생활만족도가 높게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 성생활은 노인들의 삶에 커다란 영향을 미치는 것은 물론이고 또 다른 삶의 의미를 나타낸다고 볼 수 있다.

영어 초록

Our society can be defined as aging society. Nowadays the old started to be interested in the quality of life as “successful aging”. However it seemed to be there's rare research of sexual life of the old. Nowadays there's trend of interest of the old's sex. Therefore I researched on this subject. This study is on mutual relation research between trait of sexual life and an attitude toward sex and satisfaction of life. Data of 183 which is distributed from 3rd May 2004 to 15th May 2004 was used on analysis. As assessment tool, general trait of the old, the realities of the old's sexual life, degree of recognition of aging and degree of satisfaction of life is used.SPSSPC 11.0 program was used.

The result as follows; 1. The answer to the question: “Is sexual life is important to your life?” was “yes it's important” was 31.7%, 61.6% of male old has sex. But 16.7% of female old was sexless. Frequency ofsex was male was over onetime in a month, female was only 12.1%. Even some female was sexless. Also, sexual partner of male was 29.5 percent of heterosexual friend, prostitute. Some male answered abuse himself. Barrier of sexual life was ‘anxiety about health’, ‘not decent’. There answer shows conservative morality and suppression of the old. 2. 36.6% of respondents agreed onheterosexual association. On difficulties of heterosexual association, female answered because of “too old”, male answered “too old, economic problem, custom”. This is due to custom which has younger female partner and economic burden only for man. 3. Recognition of aging was influenced by frequency of sex. That is to say, the more frequent sex, the lower recognition of aging. This shows that frequency of sex had key role in recognition of aging. With frequent sex, the old can spend health, young, confident life. 4. For the old, when he was satisfied with sexual life, his degree of satisfaction in life showed higher. Surely, condition of health and frequency of sex influenced degree of satisfaction in life. However, satisfaction of life more strongly influenced degree of satisfaction in life. That means sexual life has important meaning of life.
Therefore, the oldthough who are old, fragile should have right to enjoy himself as sexual being. The change conservative custom of society which regard the old as non-sexual being, the program of problem of senior sex should be made and run. And special counseling should be expanded. Especially senior institution have to consider spouse of the old.
