본 연구는 최근 중등 학교현장에서 새롭게 운영되고 있는 교과교실제 환경에 있어서 최적
의 상태로 구현될 수 있는 사회과 수준별 탐구학습을 위한 교수설계 모형을 개발하는데 목적
이 있다. 교과교실제는 각 교과마다 특성화된 전용교실을 갖추고 학생들이 교과교실로 이동
하여 수업을 듣는 방식이다. 교과의 특성에 따라 물리적으로 교실을 어떻게 구축해야 하는가
에 관한 연구는 대체로 진행되고 있으나, 교과교실 환경에서 교수설계는 어떻게 해야 효과적
인지에 대한 연구는 아직 부족하다. 설계기반연구 방법을 활용하여 교수설계 모형의 개발과
수업 적용 후 수정 과정을 네 차례 반복하였다. 초기 모형은 사회과 탐구학습과 관련된 선행
연구에 대한 분석을 기반으로 중학교 사회과 교과교실 상황에서 실제적으로 활용할 수 있는
최적의 원리를 중심으로 개발되었다. 초기 모형으로 서울의 A중학교 학생 2학년 34명에게 1
차 수업을 진행하였고 수정 보완된 모형으로 2차 수업을 진행하였다. 3차와 4차 수업은 다음
해에 3학년 학생 35명에게 실시하였다. 수업에 적용한 후 학생들과 교사와의 면담을 통해 개
선점을 확인하였다. 이 과정을 통해 최종 모형과 이에 따른 세부 전략을 개발하였다. 본 연구
를 통해 교과교실제 기반의 사회과 탐구학습 모형이 학습자의 참여와 동기를 증진시키고 효
과적인 수업을 가능하게 하지만, 효과적인 탐구문제 개발 방식, 모둠 활동의 학습자 참여 방
식 등에서 개선될 필요가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어 초록

This study is intended to develop an instructional design model for the differentiated
inquiry learning in the social studies subject-matter oriented classroom environment. Social
studies subject matter oriented classroom (SOC) is the kind of classroom system that
emphasizes on the professionalism of the subject-matter. It has advanced equipment along
with various educational materials for the respective subject-matter. The teacher resides in
the SOC and waits for the students to come in, while various teaching-learning activities are
carried out in the SOC. Depending on the subject matter there has been comprehensive
research on how to construct the SOC. However, how to necessarily develop an instructional
design model to teach in a SOC environment effectively is still strongly needed. The
design-based research methodology was applied to gain the optimal model. The initial
model was developed, based on a theoretical review on social studies inquiry learning,
differentiated instruction, and SOC related studies. It was developed by focusing on the
principles that can be utilized in a middle school classroom. The model has been applied to
the social studies class at the middle school in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. The initial
model was implemented on the second grade class on November 22, 2009. The revised
model was implemented on the other class on November 27, 2009. The third and fourth
classes were implemented in the following year on March 30th and April 20th for the third
graders. The interview was conducted with the teacher and two students from each group to
analyze the instructional design model’s strengths, weaknesses and improvement areas. The
collected data were analyzed in order to come up with the modifications for the instructional
design model. The same procedure was conducted four times in the fields and the new model
and specific strategies were finally developed. Through this study, an optimal instructional
design model was developed to have better students' participation and motivation in the
social studies subject-matter oriented classroom environment. However, it was suggested that
future studies should be done in the process of making problems for inquiry learning and
the strategies for securing full participation of all the learners in a group
