본 연구의 목적은 교원 양성과정에서 국제이해교육 교육과정 개발에 대한 예비교사들의 인
식을 파악하는데 있다. 교직과목 내의 국제이해 교과목 개발과 관련하여 예비 교사들의 인식
을 분석하기 위하여 본 연구는 조사연구와 포커스 집단 면담을 혼합한 통합연구방법을 사용
하였다. 교육대학과 사범대학의 학생 431명이 조사연구에 참여하였으며, 교직과목 수강자 27
명을 포커스 다섯 집단으로 나누어 면담하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 예비교사들의 국제사회에 대
한 관심도는 전반적으로 낮았다. 둘째, 예비교사들은 국제이해교육의 영역 중, 환경, 기아, 다
문화 등의 국제사회의 문제에 대해 더 관심을 보였다. 셋째, 국제이해교육 교과목 개설은 2학
점으로 저학년에 설치되는 것이 바람직하며 문제적 사안을 중심으로 한 토론과 활동위주의
수업방법이 적합하다는 의견을 나타냈다. 넷째, 포커스 집단 면담의 결과 실제로 학생들은 국
제이해교육의 필요성에 대해 교사임용고사의 부담과 관련하여 회의적인 태도를 보였다. 다섯
째, 예비교사들은 국제이해교육 교과목이 국제이해를 지도할 방안에 대해 배우는 방향으로
설계되기를 희망하였다. 이에 연구자들은 교직과정에 대한 예비교사들의 인식을 재개념화할
것과, 비판적 안목 형성을 염두에 둔 내용, 현장과 연계한 수업방법 개발을 제안하였다.

영어 초록

The purpose of the study was to investigate perception of prospective teachers' about
education for international understanding. Research questions are set up as follows; Frist of
all, what are the level of prospective teachers' concerns and understanding of education for
international understanding? And its differences between elementary school prospective
teachers and secondary school prospective teachers are significant? Secondly, what do they
have opinions about curriculum development and class offering of education for
international understanding? Lastly, what do they think about reasonable objectives, contents,
and teaching skills in curriculum development of education for international understanding?
To figure out the answers of the research questions, the study employed mixed method
by using both a survey and a focus group interview. 431 prospective students from national
universities of education and the teacher colleges took part in the study. Twenty seven
participants were placed in each five focus group.
In findings, prospective teachers' concerns about education for international understanding
were low. The levels of understanding about the themes of education for international
understanding was lower than concerns. Even though there were significant differences
between elementary and secondary prospective teachers in the level of concerns and
understanding, meaningful differences were not appeared. They were more interested in
environmental matter, starvation, and multi-cultural teaching. Prospective teachers preferred
class offering of education for international understanding in a sophomore year with two
credit hours. They did not agree with the need of a subject of education for international
understanding because of burden from teacher employment exam. The researchers suggested
that it was necessary to re-conceptionalization of a teacher certificated course. Developing
contents for critical thinking and field-study were additionally provided as alternatives in the
study.
