교육 맥락에서 교육수요자 개념은 타당한가?

교육수요자가 경제 용어라는 점에서 이 용어의 사용 여부에 관한 ‘교육학계’의 논의가 있었지만, 그것이 왜 문제가 되는지에 관하여 용어 자체를 개념적으로 고찰한 연구는 거의 찾아 보기 힘든 실정이다. 본 연구는 교육수요자 개념의 타당성 여부를 교육 맥락과 경제 맥락이라는 측면에서 다루고 있다. 교육수요자는 교육의 맥락과 경제의 맥락이 통합될 수 있다는 전제 하에서 성립할 수 있는 개념이다. 연구 결과, 교육수요자에서 수요자는 대부분의 경우에 경제의 맥락을 따르고 있었고, 수요자가 교육과 결합하여 개념적 모순을 지니지 않기 위해서는 수요자가 지닌 경제의 맥락을 포기하여야 했다. 반대로 교육이 교육의 맥락을 포기하고 경제의 맥락을 따르는 경우도 예상할 수 있겠으나, 이 경우에는 이미 교육의 개념을 부정하는 것이 되어 버린다. 결과적으로 수요자가 경제 맥락을 포기하고 교육의 맥락을 따르는 개념으로 교육과 결합하는 경우에만 개념적 모순 없이 교육 맥락에서 타당성을 지닐 수 있었다. 그러나 수요자가 교육의 맥락을 따르는 개념으로 교육과 결합할 때는 교육 주체와 별다른 의미 차이가 없었다. 경제의 맥락을 따르는 교육수요자 개념은 교육 맥락에서 개념적 타당성을 지닐 수 없다. 이를 근거로 하여 같은 맥락에서 사용하지 말자는 주장을 할 수도 있다. 그러나 그것만으로는 이러한 용어들이 담고 있는 왜곡된 맥락까지 동시에 사라지지 않는다. 이와 같은 용어들의 개념이 생성될 수 있었던 맥락 자체에 대한 비판과, 이를 통한 용어의 정립이 필요하다.

영어 초록

The term ``educational demander`` has been broadly used in the educational literature. Educational demander has been generally referred to as the students m the educational research. In addition, educational demander, the students, and the educational subject have been considered to be a unifying concept. However, these terms have been considered to be something quite different and they should not fall wider the same concept. Demander in the educational demander is an economic term, thus, whether the use of this term is proper or not has been discussed by educationalists, and very few studies have conceptually studied the use of the term ``educational demander``. In this study, regarding the use of this term, conceptual problems will be pointed out in terms of educational context and economical context, which leads to overall discussions on the use of economic terms including educational demander in educational fields and raises critical consciousness for latent problems that may occur.
