한국어 초록

우산국의 고고학적 실체규명은 한국고고학의 중요한 미해결 과제의 하나이다. 1950년대부터 지금까지 진행중인 울릉도에 대한 고고학적 조사를 통하여 우산국의 실체에 대한 외연을 좁혀가고 있으나 향후 조사연구를 통하여 해결해야할 핵심과제가 많이 남아있다. 지금까지 울릉도에서 고고학적으로 확실하게 밝혀진 모든 유적과 유물은 이사부의 우산국 정복이후에 해당하는 신라고분과 신라토기 등이며, 당연히 존재했던 요지와 취락주거지 등의 흔적은 아직 발견되지 않고 있는데, 이것은 목표지향적이고 체계적인 학술 조사가 시행되지 않은 데서 비롯한 것이다. 현재까지 이사부정복이전의 시기에 해당하는 유적과 유물로 거론된 바 있는 추정고인돌과 타제어망추와 지석 및 무믄토기편 들만으로는 신라복속 이전시기의 고고학적 해석이 어려우며, 따라서 신라복속이전시기에 해당하는 선사시대와 5세기대까지의 고고학적 증거를 찾아내는 조사는 우산국연구의 필수불가결한 과제로서 더 이상 미룰 수 없는 단계에 이르렀다. 지금까지 발견된 신라고분들도 울타리로 구획한 극소수외에는 대부분 방치되어 있으며, 일주도로와 활주로건설에 따른 위락지개발과 경작지 확대과정에서 급속도로 파괴인멸될 처지에 놓여있다. 따라서 이러한 신라고분들의 보호대책은 우산국의 고고학적 규명을 위한 조사와 병행해서 추진해야 하며, 이를 위하여 유관행정기관과 조사연구자와 긴밀하고 항시적인 협조가 이루어 져야한다. 울릉도의 유적보존과 고고학적 연구는 우산국의 실체를 규명하는 학술적 의의뿐만 아니라 독도에 대한 일본의 영토시비를 종식시키는 총체적인 작업과 연결되어 있으므로, 시기적으로 시급하기 때문에 지금까지 파악된 토기산포지를 중심으로 주거지나 요지 등의 지하유구를 찾기위한 체계적이고 연차적인 시발굴을 실시하여 신라복속이전의 독자적인 유적과 유물을 찾아내고 이를 근거로 우산국의 성격과 형성과정 및 주민 등 총체적인 고고학적 사실을 규명해야 할 것이다.

영어 초록

The identification of the archaeological fact on Usanguk is one of the important unsolved tasks in Korean archeology. Through the archaeological study on Ulleungdo Island that is still in process since the 1950s, the true nature of Usanguk is slowly being revealed, but there still are numerous crucial tasks that need to be solved through future studies. All relics and ruins that are clearly found and revealed archaeologically in Ulleungdo until now include old tombs and earthenware of Shilla that corresponds to the time after Isabu's conquest over Usanguk. The kiln sites and traces of dwellings of colony that surely existed are not discovered for now and this is due to lack of goal-oriented systematic study. Dolmen and other relics and remains that are said to be from the period before Isabu conquest are insufficient for the archaeological interpretation about the period before Shilla submission. Therefore, study discovering the archaeological evidence of prehistoric times period and the 5th century, which are the period before submission to Shilla, is indispensable project for study on Usanguk. Most ancient tombs of Shilla found until present are left by themselves except an extremely small amount that is comparted with a fence and they are in the situation where they might be destroyed rapidly due to the expansion of arable land and road development. therefore, protection measures for ancient tombs of Shilla must be combined with study on archaeological identification of Usanguk, and close and open cooperation is needed between the related administration agency and the researchers. As the preservation of relics in Ulleungdo and archaeological study not only have academical implication in terms of identifying the true facts on Usanguk, but these are related to the overall task on terminating the territorial conflict on Dokdo with Japan as well. On top of that, this is an urgent matter, therefore, systematic and continuous excavation to discover dwellings or kiln sites based on earthenware dispersed area that are found until now must be carried out in order to discover relics and remains representing times prior to submission to Shilla. And based on these, the overall archaeological facts regarding the characteristics and formation process of Usanguk and more, must be identified
