본 논문은 중국 남북조시대 크게 유행한 계수호의 연원과 형식, 양식변천을 파악하고 그 소멸 원인을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 문헌 분석과 편년이 확실한 출토품과 중국 국내외 박물관 수장품에 대한 형식과 양식 분석을 시도하였다. 원래 계수 도상은 중국 전통의 닭에 대한 길상적 사고와 서방의 영향이 합쳐져 서진시대 청자에 장식된 것이 그 시초였다. 이후 흑유로 그 제작의 폭이 넓어졌으며 부장품과 위세품으로 또한 실생활에 사용되는 주기로 사용되었다. 남북조시대 들어 사회 변동과 불교의 유입, 서방 양식의 유입, 월주요를 중심으로 한청자 제작기술의 향상으로 다양한 형식과 양식의 계수호가 출현하게 된 것을 파악하였다. 계수호의 형식은 손잡이에 따라 크게 계수계미형과 계수병형, 계수용 병형으로 분류하였고 닭의 형태와 문양 장식에 따라 세분하였다. 계수호의 양식은 시기별로 변화하였다. 계수계미형과 구형의 몸체가 처음 등장하는 서진 시기에는 월주요가 주 생산지였다. 이후 덕청요의 흑유계수와 계수병형이 나타나는 동진 시기, 안양요와 월주요가 주 생산지이며 크기가 커지고 장식적이며 몸체가 입호형의 계수용병이 제작되는 남북조 시기, 북방의 형요를 중심으로 백자가 나타나는 수대로 양식이변화한것을 고찰하였다. 끝으로 당대 이후 계수호의 소멸 원인으로는 최고 소비층의 당삼채와 서방풍의 봉수호의 선호에 따라 명기로서도 주기로서도 그 존재 이유를 상실하였기 때문으로 추정하였다.

영어 초록

This paper aims to explore the origin, the type and the style of the chicken-head jar during the Northern and Southern Dynasty. So I attempted to investigate the documents and analyse the types and the styles of dated chicken-head jars excavated in China and collected in world wide museums. The icon of chicken-head originated from Chinese traditional auspicious idea of chicken and the influence of animal decoration of West. And the first chicken-head celadon jar appeared in West Jin dynasty and later the black glaze ware of chicken-head were made. They were used as the burial ware and gifts and practical drinking ware as their range of use became broadened. Entering the Northern and Southern Dynasty, not only the turmoil of society and the inflow of Buddhism and Western style but also the improvement of celadon making techniques of Yue kiln made the diverse types and styles of chicken-head jar popular. The types of chicken-head jar was grouped into three types; the chicken tail and chicken-head type, the chicken-head with handle type, the chicken-head with dragon handle type. And the form of chicken-head and the decoration were thought of one of dividing factors. And I examined the style changes of chicken-head jar according to periods. During the West Jin Dynasty the chicken-head jar with a chicken tail and round body first appeared in Yue kiln. Next in Deching kiln the black chicken-head jar with a handle was produced in East Jin Dynasty. During the Northern and Southern Dynasty at Anyang kiln and Yue kiln, tall and decorative chicken-head jars with dragon handle were begun to be produced. During the Sui Dynasty a white chicken- head jar was produced in the Xing kiln. Finally after Tang Dynasty, the chicken-head jar disappeared because consumers favored the Tang Sancai and Phoenix-head jar more than the chicken-head jar. Thus the chicken-head jar had begun to lose it's popularities and the functions as both the burial ware and the drinking ware.
