(Acculturative Stress Scale for International
Mann-Whitney
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a song psychotherapy on theacculturation stress and self-esteem of children from multicultural families. Ten subjects
from multicultural familie attending Y Elementary School in Ulsan were purposive
sampled. The experiemental group was assigned into the song psychotherapy and the
compared group into the reading class. The song psychotherapy was conducted total of
14 sessions from August 24 to October 9, 2015 with a 40-minute session twice per week.
During the experiment period, the experiemental group received song psychotherapy
designed to reduce acculturation stress and increase self-esteem, whereas the compared
group participated in the old reading hours in school. It was measured before the
experiment two groups of acculturation stress(ASSIS) and Self-Esteem Inventory(SEI)
for the two groups were statistically two significant as a same group. The intervention
of song psychotherapy program was followed by the Mann-Whitney U test to see
whether there were significant effects on acculturation stress and self-esteem. The
results of Mann-Whitney U test showed that there were statistically significant
differences in the acculturation stress and self-esteem scores between the experiment and
compared group. but in sub-areas there were no significant differences in general
self-esteem, school self-esteem. Therefore the results from the study suggested that song
psychotherapy can be an effective intervention for the acculturation stress and
self-esteem of children from multicultural families.
