Objective : This study aimed to examine the effects of augmented feedback on upper-limb motor functions
and ADLs of chronic stroke patients.
Methods : Experiments were conducted on 12 chronic stroke patients. The patients were randomly divided
into the experimental group(6 patients) and the control group(6 patients). Both groups conducted
15 minutes per 1 time, 5 times a week, a total of 8 weeks. The experimental group
performed augmented feedback training with the motion sensor program and the control group
was provided placebo training. The degree of functional recovery of pre and post intervention
was measured by FMA: upper-limb function subtest, MFT, Box & block test, MAL and MBI.
Results : As a result of providing augmented feedback training, the experimental group showed significantly
improved results in the performance capabilities of upper-limb functions, and activities
of daily living(p<.05). However, the control group failed to show significant differences
between the pre- and pos-test scores in all tests except FMA and MAL. Moreover the experimental
group showed a significant improvements, compared with the control group(p<.05).
Conclusion : This study suggests that augmented biofeedback training by motion sensor program can be an
effective therapeutic tool in the improvements of upper-limb motor functions and ADLs of
chronic stroke patients.
