“King Lear” is the one of Shakespeare’s four tragedies. The play deals with many themes like Lear’s self-righteousness, troubles of generations, love, jealousness, betrayal and so on. Especially the tragedy coming from Lear’s absurd actions is the center of this tragedy. And Gloucester’s subplot increases its tragedy. Also the humor coexists with the tragedy in the play. And it is represented by the Fool. The Fool combines with other characters as well as plays an important part in the play. But more the play continues more the difference between the Fool and other characters is ambiguous because the other characters are a sort of fools in some way. Both the King Lear who evaluated love with comments and Gloucester who abandoned his real son can be seen as real fools because they were caught in falsehoods and vanities.
