Introduction
This essay supports and discusses the theory and the practical aspect of the phonetics and phonology within Part B. in Development of the prescribed text book. For the most part of the following descriptions and analysis will be grounded on the about the phonetics and Phonology. Phonetics means the science of speech sound as well as Phonology defines how sounds pattern and function in a given language (Collins, Beverley & Inger M. Mees. 2008). By due these definitions, to improve my linguistic knowledge based on phonetics of English, this essay will be divided into several fragments:
-Phoneme and syllable revisited
-English consonants and vowels
-Features of connected speech
-Stress, rhythm and speech melody
Phoneme and syllable revisited
Phoneme means one of a set of abstract unit which together form the sound system of a given language, and through which contrasts of meaning are produce. There are a couple of methods to define the phoneme, such as minimal pair, complementary distribution and free variation.
