Synopsis
China’s retailing story is different from US retail industry. Sarah Harrison the President of Retail Experience Associates, a retail consulting firm. Her tour to China was followed by an invitation and a suggestion from her Professor meant to give consultancy to a retail firm. She took a one weak study in a major government owned Chinese retail chain First Department Store in Suzhou, China. The department store will be one among the leading department stores. During the one week time Sarah could not learn much about the operations, customer care or marketing effort of First Department Store. However she got a general idea about how things are organized in First Department Store and its branch.
She wanted to have an in depth analysis of the operations of First Department Store. She wanted to spend time with the department heads and the sales men to know about the functioning of the organization in detail. But the effort did not see result as the sales men were not very enthusiastic with her efforts. Change cannot be made overnight. Sarah’s experience as a customer in the store was not encouraging. She came to know how bad a customer can feel in the store.
