본문내용
Through Richard Wright`s first novel, Native Son, the protagonist represents all the fear, hatred, and rebellion to show off his desire to escape the circumstances that he has faced on as fate, and to satisfy his spiritual hunger as a black man, which is stated as a theme of the novel. This theme later leads the flow of this novel as extreme happenings develop. The author`s passionate criticism of racism and critical description of poor condition of the lifestyle as an African Americans add support to the theme as it appears frequently. We can feel the author`s dearest wish that no more racial conflict would happen. However, the symbols which imply infinite meanings are usually being the gravest issue to the theme to be supportable. While reading this novel, it is clear that there are many symbols that author intended to put for emphasizing the meaning of themes. I am discussing the most conspicuous ones which are blindness, snow and the cross. These often symbolize the hatred for another.
