The film Pride and Prejudiceses. It shows that a ribbon is very trendy at this time. Parrill. S (2002, p55) says that ‘The dresses of Pride and Prejudice are in the style of those in Gone with the windwaists, huge puffed sleeves, and billowing hooped skirts. The woman’s hats are large shells which frame the women’s faces.’ Compared with the text, the costume style is early 19th century.
In Jane Austen’s novel, Pride and Prejudice lizabeth is a strong character and of moral integrity, great intelligence and an attractive personality, making her an admirable person. There is a sentence that shows her beauty ‘there is one of her sisters sitting down just behind you, who is very pretty, and



. Bennet got married to such a unique woman. There are some examples of dialogues to show her character; ‘Oh! Single, my dear, to be sure! …’ (p5), ‘I am sick of Mr. Bingley.’(p8) Macdonald. G says (2003, p77) that ‘the director’s aim was to keep it light, bright, and pleasant’. As audiences can see, the film has many comedy scenarios which are not included in the novel. The film starts in a dress shop and Mrs. Bennet and her daughters see Mr. Bingley, Miss. Bingley and Mr. Darcy. When Mrs. Bennet sees them, her reaction is exaggerated and she speaks with a harsh tongue. For inviting Mr. Bingley, she wants to go home quickly. When she is on the way home, she has a horse race with Mrs. Lucas. That scene is very funny and is enough to make audiences laugh. Parrill. S (2002, p49) says that ‘ with its warring lovers, witty dialogue, class differences, opportunity for elaborate costumes, and comic minor characters, the novel lends itself to the broadly comic treatment of screwball comedies.’ The actor’s dresses also add to make the film more comedic.
