How can I deal with my class which requires special needs?
Let me suppose that I am a teacher of the first grade of junior high school in Korea. My class consists of eleven normal students and a mute student. I teach English reading, considering the way to teach reading effectively for both normal students and a mute student. The most important thing that I should do in this class is that do not let them feel they are different from each other. Do not let normal students look a mute student as a weirdo and a mute student feel he or she is useless. Therefore, I am going to run the class as usual, but put some special methods slightly during the class for both normal students and a mute student. For my students getting joined together, I will run the class with group working,
Last, they will rewrite the story using the words and expression that they learned. They prepare one sheet of paper per group and rewrite the story with using the vocabulary and expressions that we learned. They write one sentence in turn. For example, student A writes a first sentence and hides his or her sentence as folding the paper a little bit. Then, student B writes down a sentence using next word or expression and hides it again. They are doing this in turn. Each person in a group will write about four or five sentences. When it finished, they unfold their story paper and confirm their story. In this process, they can check each other`s grammar point as a peer correction activity. As a whole class activity, each group will share their story with other groups. Through this kind of
