1.PROCEDURE1. Check out the required equipment. Clean and dry your equipment well before using it.
2. Add 50ml of 0.050M, 0.025M NaOH and tap water to each three 100ml beaker. Distilled water was not ready, so use tap water instead of distilled water.
3. Add ½ spoons of Ca(OH)2 to each beaker and dissolve it. Stir the solution for 10 minutes.
4. Filter the solution of each beaker using the buchner funnel and then, record the temperature of the filtered solutions.
5. Put 25 ml of these solutions to three 100ml Erlenmeyer flask respectively.
6. Then, add 2~3 drops of phenolphthalein indicator
7.Titrate the solutions with a standard 0.10M HCl solution until equilibrium.
Put HCl solution until the solution became colorless
First, we put Ca(OH)2 to NaOH solutons, and tap water. We stirred for ten minutes. We observed the solution and the solutions became misty. And We filtered the solution of each beaker using the buchner funnel and then, record the temperature of the filtered solutions. The temperatures are same as 24℃. And we added 2~3 drops of phenolphthalein indicator to 25 ml of these solutions. Then the solutions turned red. Because phenolphthalein indicator makes basic solution red and makes acid solution colorless. And we titrated the solutions with a standard 0.10M HCl solution until equilibrium. In order to make the solutions equilibrium, we put HCl solution until the solution became colorless. When the solutions became colorless, we stopped putting HCl and observed the amount of HCl. Until eqilibrium, HCl solution was consumed 16.7ml, 9.2ml, 7.5ml at tap water, 0.025M NaOH solution, and 0.05M NaOH solution.
In this result, we could find interesting fact. The amount of HCl titrated are decreased. However, the difference of the amount of HCl are decreased. Generally, we can think OH- decrease definitely, H+ will decrease definitely, too. But, it didn`t. We found the reason. The reasons are Le Chatelier’s Principle
