Section 1: Introduction
Singapore, officially Republic of Singapore, is a city-state made up of some islands located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. The administrative language of the country is English. The currency is the Singapore Dollar.
Because the geographic location of Singapore makes it easy to get everywhere, Great Britain, in 1819, established a strategic trading post on the island. It was to make Singapore become important commercial and military centers of the British Empire in South Asia. Since then, it has grown fast in trade sector and it has become one of the most important spots for South Asia in terms of trade and transportation.
Singapore has few resources. Nevertheless, Singapore is a developed country and the 8th wealthiest country in the world in terms of GDP per capita.
Section 2: International Trade and Finance
2.1 Current Trends
Singapore’s economy depends heavily on exports, particularly in consumer electronics and information technology products. Exporting those products has led the Singapore’s economy to grow rapidly. Therefore, the economy changes a lot according to the change in demand for those products from rest of the world. It means that the economy is likely to be hurt by the recession from other countries.
