There has been an argument regarding the issue whether it is better to keep old friends than to make new friends. Some people advocate that it is better to make new friends. However, contrary to their opinion, I believe maintaining old friends are more crucial. The rationale behind this is that old friends are trustworthy. What is more, they can understand their friends better.

First and foremost, people can depend on their old friends better than new friends. In general, since old friends are the people who have formed close bond for long period of time, they are the ones whom people can rely on. Thus,




Another reason that should be taken into account is that old friends can better understand their friends. To demonstrate, old friends are people who went through good times and bad times together. Hence, old friends know each other`s secrets and know what situation their friends are in. Therefore, old friends are more comfortable to be around and can feel relaxed. However, with new friends, people can have conflicts because they do not understand each other and do not know about their friends well. This can make each other to feel awkward and uncomfortable to be together. For example, whenever I feel blue or have troubles, I go to see my old friend Jane. She knows almost everything about me since we have been friends for more than ten years. When I confide my feelings to her, she understands me immediately and really cares for me. Thus, it is always pleasing to be with her and
