Last year, the United Nations (UN) designated 2009 the year of climate change. This meant that every country should collaborate with one another for the collection of wisdom to manage climate change.
Due to the environmental crisis and depletion of fossil fuels, the existing way of development has reached its limits. With fossil fuels, global sustainability is impossible. In this situation, the new way of development is green growth. The concept of green growth includes developing and saving the environment. In other words, those countries which implement green growth policies can contribute to the global society.
Korea does not have many natural resources so green growth is very important. In addition, as the 13th largest economy in the world, Korea can no longer be free from international duties. On May 15th 2008, the Korean government declared that green growth would be the goal of the next development plans to keep pace with the international trend.
