Do-Ho Suh, Yasumasa Morimura and Identity
Identity is an umbrella term used throughout the social sciences to describe a person’s
conception and expression of their individuality or group affiliations. In Psychology, the identity
relates to self-image, self-esteem, and individuality. However, what is identity in art? It is artwork
which reflects his own message. Two Artists,
Do-Ho Suh
and
Yasumasa Morimura
, wanted to
express their own thought. We can see What identity means in art through these artists.
One example of an artist is
Do-Ho Suh
. His famous work is
“Karma”(2003).
Before
examining his message, we should know his profile because it influences his identity. He was born
in Seoul, Korea, in 1963, studied art in Korea and the United States, and now divides his time
between New York and Korea. From the book
Themes of Contemporary Art
, “to the extent that
identity is tried to place, the kind of displacement that

experiences every time he
changes locations works against a stable sense of identity.” His interests is in Communication
