Moll Flanders from Daniel Defoe’s The FORTUNES AND MISFORTUNES Of the Famous Moll Flanders, and Pamela from Samuel Richardson’s Pamela; or, Virtue Rewarded are two realistic female characters whose narrative and letters have been modified by the authors. Due to the experience of languishing in poverty and having no counsel available either to preserve her money or to guide her conduct good deeds, Moll Flanders continuously struggles with poverty. While both Moll Flanders and Pamela believe money cannot buy their happiness, Moll Flanders defends her belief on money and puts a high value on money to survive while Pamela puts a low value on money and takes her virtue as her upmost priority.
Moll Flanders’ entire life seems to be miserable, and she only thinks of a way to preserve her money until she achieves real penitence through a true understanding of the Bible. When she achieves real penitence
