쥐의 실험에서 우리는 Organisms이 꼭 필요하지 않은 보상(전기자극)을 이끌어내는 행동에 점점 집중하게 된다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이러한 것이 쥐와 같은 동물이 아닌 인간에게도 해당이 되는 것인가라는 질문에는 External Reward에 의해서 역시 인간의 행동도 동기부여 받을 수 있다. 하지만 contingent rewards가 강력한 동기부여 수단이 되는 것에는 잠재적 비용의 문제와 함께 약간의 의문점이 존재한다.
THE INTERPLAY OF REWARDS AND NATURE
Self-determination theory(SDT): 인간에게는 외부규제를 자기규제화 시키려는 내재적 동기화 경향이 존재한다. 사람들은 autonomy와 homonomy를 추구하는 경향이 있다.
외부적으로 규제된 행동이 natural organismic processes를 약화 시킨다. 많은 경우 보상은 개인으로 하여금 자연적으로 하지 않는 것들을(장시간 노동, 개인적 흥미와 관계를 무시하는 것, 가치 없는 일을 하게끔 하는 것) 하기 위해 사용된다. 그래서 앞으로 보상으로 인해 발생되는 문제점들에 대해서 살펴보도록 하자.
