Language and animal language may seem very similar, but they have many differences. Animal language is a relative concept as opposed to language. In general, both human and animal use a signal of sound to communicate with each other. Also, their ability to communicate with each other is innately guided. For example, infants are able to instinctively learn any language to which they are exposed. Similarly, bees are arranged that they communicate locations of flowers to others. In addition, language and animal language both presuppose community. In other words, their desire to communicate with each other comes from the community. However, there are many differences between language and animal language. According to The Design Features of Language by American linguist, Charles Hockett, language and animal language are easily distinguished. First of all, in case of animal, the practical signal has inevitable relation to it`s meaning. However, language is an arbitrary symbol, so there is no direct connection between the signal and its meaning.
