In September 2009, an event was caused by a difference between the English and Korean languages in Korea. It was a hot issue for a while among Koreans, and everyone talked about this. It was about postings on MySpace that a Korean-American boy living in Korea made to one of his close friends in America a couple of years ago. A Korean found those and translated them to Korean since they were written in English to spread them on Korean websites. The postings included things like, “I hate Koreans”, “Korea is gay” (Andy Rathbun, October 5, 2009). As soon as it became prevalent, a lot of Koreans got offended and even some of the supporters of that Korean-American turned against him, saying, “Yankees go home” and “He is not Korean, he is American.” Four days later, he ended up leaving Korea and went to his home to Seattle, America, saying nothing, and only giving a bow like a Korean to his fans and reporters at the airport. (Andy Rathbun, October 5, 2009).
This is what 17 year-old third generation Korean-American and pop singer, Jay Park, wrote a few years after coming to Korea for the first time. In 2005, he came to Korea alone. He was picked up at an audition by a major Korean entertainment company, and then came to Korea to pursue his dream as a singer. (Andy Rathbun, October 5, 2009) When he first came to Korea, he was young and he only could say “Hello” in Korean.
