A widely accepted theory for store selection, i.e. the central place theory, claims that location has always been an important factor in attracting patrons to a shopping area (Craig et al., 1984). That is, consumers go to the nearest stores. E-mart stores are usually located in the center of populous housing areas. It is very convenient and easy to access. The discount stores in Korea are sort of alternative of Korean traditional market.
Going shopping at the discount stores can fulfill consumers` functional needs for purchasing goods, and also going to the discount store for socialization or as a diversion from routine life. In the E-Mart store, it has a lot of facilities such as food courts, playground for children, drug stores, book stores, photo shop, flowers, eye glasses, culture center, hair shop, etc. Korean female consumers often choose discount stores as the places for socialization with friends and for diversion from daily routines.
