* Important Technology Innovations
•Oxygen gas burners
The use of oxygen has potency in saving 50 to 100 kwhof electric energy per ton of steel produced and reducing tap-to-tap times by 3 to 6 minutes.
•Foamed Slag Method
Thermal efficiency range from 60 to 90% with slag foaming can be achieved compared to 40% without foamy slag. If a deep foamed slag is achieved, it is possible to increase the arc voltage considerably. This allows a greater rate of power input.
•Furnace Operation with Hot Heel
With hot heel operations (residual liquid steel in the furnace bottom) it is possible to start foaming much sooner.
