본문내용
We often make decisions that we would not have made on our own. As humans, others` opinions mean a great deal to us, and in “Shooting an Elephant”, Orwell shows how true this idea is by using his story. “Shooting the Elephant” of George Orwell, the British author, is about an incident with an elephant, which happened when he was in Burma as a sub-divisional police officer in the town. Being the police made him kill an elephant because of his official role which represented imperial power. During the essay, the author is talking about real images of imperialism according to the narrator’s experience in Burma. He deals with not only the general concept of imperialism from a perspective of an Englishman but also how imperialism is organized and works on both sides of colonized people and colonizers. The author effectively catches the reader’s attention by accentuating the three elements of the Greek Triangle--ethos, pathos, and logos. His effective use of credibility, emotion, and logical evidence helps us understand properly how imperialism is “wrong”.
