1.0 History of Walmart
In 1962 , the first Walmart discount store was built by Sam Walton in Rogers , Arkansas U.S followed by , first members – only – store Sam’s club and Supercenter opened in 1983 , 1988 , respectively .
This " bundle sale " discount store began to spread out to medium and small region with no competition compared to big city . Therefore , it could be background of a rapid growth of Walmart through extension of swift chain network . They have about 1.9 million employees , 7262 markets which are distributed 3550 Walmart store , 591 Sam`s club , 3121 international store and about 55% of its stores are located in the US . It is not only the largest retail industry , but also ranked NO.1 group on the Fortune 500 listing in the world in 2002 .
