In general, linear type regulators(ex. LM7805) require at least 2V+supply voltage. In other words, to produce the output voltage level of 5V, the input voltage must be at least 7V.

From the simulation result in figure 2, we can verify that if the input voltage is lower than 6.6V(approximately 7V), it doesn`t satisfy the output voltage level of 5V. But from the experiment result in figure 1 and figure 2, we can find that to produce a constant voltage(5V), we may supply at least 5.9V(approximately) not 6.6V. And if the input voltage is higher(or the same) than 5.9V, it produces the output voltage level of 5V(exactly 5.05V).
The characteristic of the linear type regulator is that if the input voltage is lower than a specific voltage(this case, 5.9V), it doesn`t produce the constant output voltage. As the input voltage is increased, the output voltage is also increased. Then, when the input voltage is near the specific voltage, the output voltage maintains stable and keeps constant. Finally, if the input voltage is higher than the specific voltage, it maintains the output voltage as 5V regardless of the change of input voltage.
Because we didn`t get more samples, we can find the differences in terms of specific data between simulation and experiment result. However, we understand the operating method and characteristic of linear type regulator.
