1. Goals & Objectives
Understand the operating principle of a timer and an audio amp, and implement it by connecting to a speaker. We can understand the characteristics of a timer and an audio amp.
2. Design Procedure
① We set the timer circuit on the breadboard.
② Check the voltages with the oscilloscope.
③ We listen to the sound without the audio amp.
④ We solder the above circuits with speaker on the real board.
⑤ We check the voltage with sensor and listen to the speaker sound.
3. Experiment Specification
3.1 Timer
① Requirements
We observe the output pulse’s period and magnitude when we change the amplitude and frequency of modulation input voltage ( Vin ).
② Specific matters
PWM mode also works similar operation like PPM mode. However, PWM mode needs to external trigger signal. In other words, in case of a PWM mode, the frequency is fixed by an external clock while the duty changes according to the value of R and C. On the other hand, in case of a PPM mode, one R and one C control the duty of the pulse while the extra R controls the frequency. So we perform PPM mode operation which doesn`t need to external trigger signal. In the pulse position modulator, the reference of the timer`s internal comparators is modulated which in turn modulates the timer output according to the modulation signal applied to the control terminal.
