2. Thesis Statement:
Tian-an men Square and National Mall have several similarities. Firstly, they are in the capital of their countries, and buildings surrounded them are the most important federal institutions. Secondly, a lot of important political activities were held at the Tian-an men Square and National Mall. Thirdly, designs of squares are similar. Fourthly, there are many art works about Tian-an men Square and National Mall.

Tian-an men Square and National Mall is at the capital of their countries; Bei-jing, China and Washington D.C, U.S.A. Since their placements are focal point of capital main streets are intersected with Tian-an men Square and National Mall. Moreover, buildings surrounded them are the most important federal institutions.
Chang’an Avenue which is an east-west road in front of Tian-an men Square. The road was built for the city’s main traffic route in the late 1930s. In 1958, the ‘Ten Great Buildings’ project is enforced in Bei-jing, and they were planned to establish around the Tian-an men Square. In the ‘Ten Great Buildings`, the grandest and most important buildings are included, such as the Great Hall of the people, the Museum of Chinese History, the Cultural Palace of the Nationalities, the Military Museum, the Beijing Train Station, the State Guest Hose, the Hotel of the Nationalities, the National Art Gallery, the Hotel Overseas Chinese, and so on.
The official boundaries of the National Mall are Constitution and Pennsylvania Avenues on the north, 1st Street, NW on the east, Independence and Maryland Avenues on the south, and 14th Street, NW on the west. There are National Museum of American History, National Museum of Natural History, National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, Ulysses S. Grant Memorial, National Museum of the American Indian, Lincoln Memorial Vietnam Veterans Memorial, National World War II, The Washington Monument, and so on.
