As a student who learned a lot of skills about professional and technical communication in your ECS3390 class, I would like to give my reflection on this class. I learned how to write reports professionally and how to make effective technical presentation by doing similar activities for two or more times. I also learned how to write a technical memo, a cover letter, and a resume. In this memorandum, I will address that the easiest and the hardest topics or assignments in your ECS 3390 course. Additionally, I will address one of the most helpful topics for me.
Firstly, the easiest topic to learn, for me, was the cross-culture communication. While I attended the university in Korea, I met many exchange students who were from various countries. I am also currently attending UTD as an international student. Therefore, I experienced many cross-cultural differences in person. When you gave some examples about cultural differences including Asians’ rule of giving their name cards, I could clearly understand what you were saying. When I worked on the cross-culture assignment, I also could find many ideas easily compare to other assignments.
On the other hand, it is very hard to select the hardest part of this course. Since English is my second language, most of the assignments in this class were hard to me. I always struggled with my grammatical issues in all assignments. Among all, the individual report and the individual presentation were very hard assignment to me. When I was working on my team project, my team members were willing to check grammatical errors in my sentences. When we practiced together on our team presentation, they also checked my part including my script and my pronunciation. However, I could not do these things on my individual report and presentation. Therefore, I could not help agonizing with my six-page paper and ten-minute presentation to finish it by myself.
