Learning how to ask questions is very important when beginning to study a new language, and is often discussed very early on in textbooks and other learning resources. For example, the “What is your name?” question in particular occurs in many first chapters of language textbooks, regardless of the language and even before any formal introduction about question words. Although questions in English can be made properly without the use of special question words, (for example, “Are you going to school? and “Is vanilla your favorite ice cream?”), learning the question words is usually the basis of early chapters about questions (the alternative examples to the previous ones being, “Where are you going?” and “What is your favorite ice cream?”) and allow for much broader questions in most cases.
