Ⅰ. IntroductionWhat can be called culture? In dictionary it said, Culture consists of activities such as the arts and philosophy, which are considered to be important for the development of civilization and of people`s minds. Then, how the ‘Korean’ culture can be defined? For a long time, Korea and China were closely related with each other owing to their geographical proximity. Therefore, these two countries share very similar cultures in many ways. However, it is a mistake of hasty generalization to assume that Korea and China share same culture. Though Korea uses Chinese characters in many situations and some of Korean traditional foods and costumes look very similar to those of Chinese, it is still not okay to assume that they are in same cultural area. In this paper, I want to analyze and compare Korean and Chinese culture in cultural identity, language, and religion. I heard that many westerners think that Korea is vested in part of Chinese cultural area. I hope my analysis can help their confusion to be changed, and also hope them to know more about Korean culture.
