1. Point mass downfall
A. Experimental outline
The object falling on the curvature is off-bending in a moment and goes the free-fall. In theory, calculate the falling point of object and review the results as compared to the measuring values.
B. Experimental Equipment
Materials : a mouse ball and a tapeline
Figure 2.1.1
C. Experimental methods
(1) Place the ball at the arbitrary point of A section, the ball is moved along the floor. Then, it is passed by B section and followed on C section. At last, the ball falls to the D section after the drop-off the curvature.
(2) Measure the hight, h at A section and the distance, s at D section.
(3) Repeat the experiment more than 5 times and takes average.
(4) Compare the theoretically calculated distance, s with experimental results.
D. Theoretical calculation
When a ball falls at any height h, the speed of ball at c point can be calculated from the energy conservation law.
(2.1)
If the friction energy loss is absent from the b point to c point, the speed at c point can be the same at b point. A drop-off locations on the curvature of the ball can be calculated from the below equation. In the state before off-bending of the curvature,

To write equations of the movement for normal direction
(2.2)
In a moment of off-bending, the vertical drag, N become 0. However, it can not solved because of one equation and two unknown quantities. Here, the energy conservation law apply to ⓒ and ⓓ.
