1. ON DECK vs. FICO
Small businesses have not had many chances to raise fund from banks because bank loans are made on the basis of entrepreneurs’ personal FICO credit scores and bank loan officers cannot figure out the business ability. Jacobs of ON DECK offers a website service that gives an ‘on deck score’ for free, which is not a business owner’s personal credit score but the score of business ability to repay debt. Then the company which applied evaluation is matched up with a lender through the website. The interest rate is not cheap (18~36%) and available for 3 to 36 months. ON DECK expects to turn a profit by year’s end.
Jacobs invented the service for business men who cannot get a loan because of low or no credit from FICO. It gives opportunities to develop and prosper a good business idea and to make money. Some good ideas are not realized due to lack of capital. In this aspect, ON DECK service enables some business men to realize their ideas and enhances entrepreneurship in society.

The products are macadamia nut oil infused shaving foam and skin treatment with lower price than big companies’, and distributed to major departments like Nordstrom. The company was founded 11 years ago by former cosmetic executives, and is located in Texas. They have only 25 full time employees and expect 35 to 40 million dollars.
