Becoming a great manager is a lengthy, difficult process and change driven mostly by personal experiences. Managers need a clear underlying sense of what is important and where they and their group should be in the future. There are ‘Three imperatives’ to be ‘Great Manager’. First of all, Manage yourself. Productivity mostly depends upon whether people trust you or not as a manager. Management does begin with who you are as a human being. Second, Manage your network. Conflicts and competitions among groups are inevitable. These get resolved through organizational influence. The effective managers build and nurture a broad network of ongoing relationships with those they need and those who need them. Lastly, Manage your team. For collective work that requires various skills, teams are more creative than individual who merely cooperate. In a real team, members hold themselves and one another jointly accountable. So cultures in a team are important.
