In recent years products labeled “sustainable”, “natural” or “organic” have hit the shelves of many national retailers on a scale never seen before. These products range from produce, poultry, cosmetics and many more items. Simultaneously national obesity issues, rising health costs and general wellness of the nation have become heated topics on Capitol Hill. Therefore, health and organic foods have become very popular in every household and show no sign of slowing down. The industry has seen triple fold growth since the 1990’s and Whole Foods is strategically aligned to benefit from future growth the food industry anticipates. In the next two paragraphs I will highlight two areas of strength which will continue Whole Foods’ success.

Counting and monitoring the levels of inventory: Review and revise current inventory holding strategy. Try to incorporate the product life cycle marketing strategy to minimize impact on the company’s purchase and holding of inventory. Use promotional pricing techniques on items, which have been sitting on the shelves for a longer time. Implementing these ideas will directly and positively impact Whole Foods’ inventory turnover periods. The decrease in inventory turnover periods will help to improve net profits and revenue per square foot.
