Grammar is important for young learners and it should be taught to the young learners in appropriate ways. Cameron pointed out that grammar is essential for expression and that it is connected closely with vocabulary. He also suggested that grammar can be naturally learnt from the learning of chunks of foreign language and there are ways to teach grammars to young learners without following the traditional methods or technical labels. (Cameron, 2001)
When the word ‘grammar’ is analysed Cameron found three different meanings of ‘grammar’. It is the word to describe what people usually do when using the language. It is more of conventional rules of language that people often follow, which Cameron described as ‘pattern of language’. There is also pedagogical grammar - which were developed for learning purposes from various descriptive grammars not initially targeted for teaching - that has explicit instructions on patterns and rules for learners to follow step by step.
